People enjoy birdwatching because watching birds is relaxing, interesting, and joyful. Birds are fascinating animals to watch playing, eating, flying, and interacting with each other. You can watch the wildbirds for free without having to spend any money at home or at a local park. I have a birdfeeder outside of my kitchen window where I watch the wildbirds all year long. There is a place where the sandhill cranes migrate that's not too far from where I live and I go there in the spring and fall to watch them. I've also gone on many birdwatching tours here in the U.S. to see different kinds of birds (like going to Florida to see beautiful flamingos, white ibis, roseate spoobills, and pelicans).
People even take bird watching trips to different parts of the world and pay a great deal to watch penguins in Antartica (I wish I was able to do this) or go to a rainforest in South America and watch parrots and other tropical birds in the wild.
People also observe wildbirds and report their observations to different organizations. It's very satisfying to do this.
